Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled—Petaling Jaya HQ

The first Beautiful Gate centre was founded at Petaling Jaya in 1995. We aim to provide accommodation, training and various services for people with disabilities (PWDs) in need, regardless of their religion, race, gender and social status. Since the establishment of Beautiful Gate Foundation, we are committed to continuously serve PWDs through general education, peer counselling, employment services, vocational training, Independent Living Program (ILP), transport services, dance training, wellness & care, sporting activities, PWD advocacy & awareness campaigns, rehabilitation and many other programmes.

PWDs who join Beautiful Gate Foundation come from different educational backgrounds, needs, and abilities. Therefore, we implement a need-based approach to provide them the necessary training and services. We promote spiritual growth, instill determination in learning and self-development, in order to uncover the true potential of PWDs.

Beautiful Gate Foundation For The Disabled—Kepong Centre

Beautiful Gate Kepong centre was founded in 1996 as a rehabilitation centre to provide services for those who suffer from paralysis due to traffic accidents, industrial accidents, diseases and surgical failure. Between 1996 -1999, Beautiful Gate Kepong runs its services in three rented single storey houses in Kepong and through God’s blessings, we managed to purchase a two and half storey terrace house for the centre’s operation in year 2000.

Apart from providing temporary accommodation, the centre provides rehab training and peer counselling, which includes: transferring themselves from one place to another, driving vehicles (motorbike), grocery shopping, cooking, relationship building, etc. More importantly, they are introduced to suitable medication intake, assistive devices, and various information which will help them actively carry out their daily activities.

The centre also provides transport services to hospitals for medical check-up and therapies for trainees who need daily exercises to strengthen their arms, as well as welfare assistance i.e. registration and allowance application with government department.

Trainees in the centre are encouraged to participate in hospital visitations like visiting patients, PWDs and friends to help rebuild their self-confidence and giving arms for others in need. Moreover, the centre works together with hospitals such as Hospital University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, Selayang Hospital and other medical institutions in hope that PWD will receive more

Programs & Services

  1. Organize a variety of festive activities to provide PWDs opportunities to interact with one another.
  2. Organize outdoor or travel activities to expose PWDs to the society to enhance their self-confidence.
  3. Organize seminars to increase their knowledge in different aspects of life.
  4. Provide disability aids and assistance for the needy.
  5. Provide independent living programs to assist PWDs towards self-reliance.
  6. Provide training on computer and baking, so that PWDs have skills.
  7. Visitation and peer counselling to assist PWDs to gain self-acceptance.
  8. Physiotherapy and sporting activities for health and wellness.
  9. Provide transport services for PWDs to hospitals, social welfare department and participate in recreational activities and entertainment.
  10. Organize activities to create disability awareness and petitions to advocate the rights of all PWDs.

Beautiful Gate Foundation For The Disabled— Kampar Centre

Beautiful Gate Foundation in Kampar was set-up in 1999. Its purpose is to provide educational opportunities for marginalized people with disabilities (PWDs) especially those who have been deprived of education. The occupants of the centre includes people with physical disabilities, severe disabilities, learning disabilities, illness and autism.

Beautiful Gate Kampar centre aspires to provide to PWDs with opportunities in education and enhancement of their living skills, so that they can lead an independent and meaningful life.

Programs & Services

  1. Provide transport services for PWDs to go for medical check-up, recreation and outings.
  2. Organize outing activities & performances at events.
  3. Provide training, counselling, financial management training, education, healthcare, & physical therapy facilities.
  4. Assist PWDs with business management skills & employment opportunities.
  5. Welfare assistance: Equipment for the needy, application for OKU cards/ identity cards, benefits and school administration.
  6. Donate food ration to the needy.
  7. Lend mobility aid to PWDs, e.g.: wheelchair, mobility scooter for license examination.
  8. Organize recycling activities, Conduct KIOSK AMAN JAYA schemes to sell evening newspaper and second-hand goods.

Beautiful Gate Foundation For The Disabled— Seremban Centre

Beautiful Gate Seremban centre began actively promoting its cause in 1999 by Rev. Tan Chee Hoe, brother Ng Chung Chiat and sister Sia Ling Ling. In the early stages, the centre utilised Mambau Chinese Methodist Church to carry out its activities. On May 1, 2001, the Preparatory Committee, under the leadership of Rev. Stephan and assistance of church members, held the “Beautiful Gate Ministries and Computer Course Launching Ceremony” at Mambau Community Hall. There were computer courses, food carnival, telematch and other activities for all people with disabilities (PWDs). The former Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education, Datuk Hon Choon Kim personally presided over the launching ceremony.

In 2002, we purchased a 5,000-square-feet area of land in Kampung Baru Mambau and built a two and a half storey Arts Centre for the purpose of training  potentially artistic people with disabilities. Under the leadership of Rev. Chu Leng Chek, the centre rented the ground floor of a shoplot in Kampung Baru Mambau to operate temporary services. In addition, the centre offered accommodation, life skills training, skills training and welfare assistance for PWDs in need. Pastor Wong Soo Pin became the centre’s superintendent.

On the 7 November 2004, the centre held a “Beautiful Gate Art Centre’s Groundbreaking Ceremony”. The building project was successfully completed at the cost of RM 420,000 at the end of September 2007. The “Beautiful Gate Arts centre Opening and Thanksgiving Ceremony” event was officiated on the 6 June 2008 by  Rev. Boh Che Suan from CAC, and  350 people attended the ceremony.

(To cater work opportunities for persons with learning disabilities. We urge the factories and vendors to offer simple jobs or working opportunities for PWD such as fold, cut, glue and other simple hand work.)

Beautiful Gate Foundation For The Disabled— Melaka Centre

In 2004, the members from Beautiful Gate Foundation organised a disability awareness campaign in Malacca town. Through the exhibitions, seminars, and interactions with the local people with disabilities (PWD) they discovered that due to the lack of education, they do not have much employment opportunities. Hence, in order to assist them, the foundation decided to set up a service centre for the disabled community in Malacca.

In 2005, Pastor Sia offered her family’s corner terrace house to set up a temporary centre. The centre offered courses like general education, languages, computing, baking and organized packaging jobs to assist PWDs to earn a living. However, due to the limited space, the centre was unable to provide accommodation services or expand its training.To date, Beautiful Gate Melaka continuous to look for opportunity to expand its services.

Programs & Services

Accessible Transport Services
In 2016, the management board of Beautiful Gate Malacca centre decided to purchase a new van to provide accessible transportation for PWDs to enable them to attend activities and daily needs.

Sheltered workshop
The centre provides day care services and working skills training for PWDs with physical and learning disabilities. Apart from training them to be independent, it allows them to earn some income.

Baking Class
Baking classes are held at the centre to allow PWDs to acquire basic baking skills (variety of cakes, breads & biscuits) to enhance their skills, discover their abilities, earn an extra income and to raise funds for the centre.

Sunday school
The Sunday school class are held every Wednesday at 11.00 am and activities include sharing of Bible verses, copying Bible verses, singing, handicrafts, games, praise dance and others.

Festive celebrations, Gospel meeting, publication of Beautiful Gate news.

Future Plans – New Building Project

In 2006, Suechi Industries Sdn Bhd. donated a land with a total area of 4048m2 to the centre. The location is nearby the current Beautiful Gate Melaka centre. Beautiful Gate Foundation intend to build a new centre to provide more employment opportunities and accommodations for PWDs living in the remote areas. At the present moment, the building project is pending for approval.

The facilities included in the new building plan:5 toilets, accommodation space for 20 people, office, kitchen, dining room, baking chamber, computer room, rooms for workshops, multi-purpose meeting room, laundry room, clothes drying area, storeroom and physiotherapy room. The building project cost RM5 million.

The current needs:

  • Recruit volunteers to participate in various activities and services organized by the centre.
  • Food, rations and daily necessities.
  • Donation to support the centre’s operating expenses, which is estimated RM50,000 per year.

Beautiful Gate Foundation For The Disabled— Klang Centre

Since its establishment in 2006, Beautiful Gate Klang Centre has been providing services and assistance to the disabled community for more than a decade.  Our commitment are to enhance the quality of life of all people with disabilities (PWDs) and their total integration into the community. Klang centre is the sixth centre initiated by Beautiful Gate Foundation For The Disabled.

The centre provides accommodation, transportation and vocational training to fulfil its mission of providing intervention, rehabilitation and sustainability support for the underprivileged PWDs. The centre sustains through recycling activities, charity sale and fund raising campaigns to support its training programs and operational cost.

Programs & Services

Life Education for the Disabled (LED)
LED is a program which aims to equip & develop PWDs with practical survival skills, positive characters and healthy interests. The program is specifically designed to be completed within 3 terms (4 months per term) for anyone who has basic command of language. Upon completion, trainees will be issued with a certificate.

Accessible Transportation Service (ATS)
The ATS is a ‘door-to-door’ accessible transport service for wheelchair users within Klang. The ATS provides opportunities for PWD to participate in daily activities which enables them to live independently and integrate into society.

  • Fees : RM10.00 / return-trip for 1 wheelchair and 1 additional passenger.
  • Service time: Mon – Fri (9.00AM- 5.00PM), Closed on public holidays.
  • Places : Hospital, banks & shopping malls in Klang.
  • Reservation : 3 days advanced notice.

Beautiful Gate Foundation For The Disabled— Manjung Centre

Beautiful Gate Manjung centre is located in Manjung District of Perak, and it is the seventh centre initiated by Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled. The centre started in 2009 and was officially launched on the July 10, 2010 by Rev. Boh Che Suan, President of the Malaysian Chinese Methodist Church Annual Conference (CAC). Guests of honour, include Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Kong Cho Ha, former Minister of Transportation and Dato’ Ngeh Ko Ham, Setiawan state assemblyman, officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony. 150 people attended the event.

Beautiful Gate Foundation For The Disabled— Puchong Centre

Beautiful Gate Puchong commenced operations on 13th May 2013, which aims to offer opportunities for the intellectually/mentally challenged young adults towards independent living. This vocational training centre focuses on character, spiritual development and career training to empower them for positive transformation and to lead productive lives.

Beautiful Gate Puchong building was donated by Goodwill Community Foundation from U.S.A in 2009. The centre is managed by the centre’s management committees and an administrative team of physically disabled leaders, along with volunteers who have the compassion for this marginalised community.

Programs & Services

  • Provide opportunities for PWDs to develop basic life skills & vocational skills.
  • Provide occupational therapy, music therapy and dance therapy.
  • Provide working skills training courses and basic education.
  • Provide opportunities for PWDs to learn to live independently (Independent Living).
  • Visit and counsel family members of PWDs who need assistance.
  • Organize celebrations and activities in order to create opportunities for PWDs to interact and socialize.
  • Organize outdoor activities and travelling to enhance PWDs self-confidence and social integration.
  • Organize community service activities.
  • Organize awareness campaign to advocate for PWDs rights and welfare.
